This is easily my favorite place on the whole island. The foliage is gorgeous and the trail is very scenic, just beware mosquitoes in the summer. Once you reach the water, there's plenty of places to sit and relax. On a clear day, I believe you can see across Ocracoke Inlet to Portsmouth Island. The waters surrounding are where Blackbeard was killed, so that's definitely worth the visit all in its own. No parking though!
