I'm grudgingly giving two stars only because of my initial positive experience with Joe, the sales associate I worked with while looking at vehicles on the lot. He was very knowledgeable about the vehicles and generally open about known condition issues, not to mention very personable and willing to delay his lunch to assist me in my search. Unfortunately, management/ownership was much less accommodating.
Upon identifying a vehicle that I had an interest in, I informed Joe that, prior to purchase, I would like to take the vehicle to my mechanic to assess any potential issues. According to Joe, the boss/owner declined my request to take this vehicle for an inspection by my mechanic as it was too far away and created "liability issues". Note, my mechanic's shop was roughly 16 miles from the dealership and I would have left my current vehicle, worth 6X the value of the vehicle I was looking at, on the lot during this time. I imagine that people have likely taken test drives longer than 16 miles but, regardless, without a mechanic I know and trust to review the condition of the vehicle, I was unable to make a purchase. Additionally, and probably most troubling, is that the "manager/owner" was unwilling to speak with me directly to try and reach some type of resolution.
To provide some additional context, as communicated to the dealership, I was a "Cash in Hand" buyer and actually purchased a more expensive vehicle (cash purchase) from a different dealership a few days later. Long story short, it would seem a minor concession to allow a potential customer to have a vehicle assessed by a certified mechanic of their choosing prior to purchase. They did say I could bring it to a "Local Mechanic" which, I assume, must mean one somewhere much less than 16 miles away. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience. East Wake Auto Sales lost both a sale and a potential future customer.
